Restore Someone’s Sight & Change A Life with LRBT

To our country’s adversity, out of every 3 Pakistanis, only 1 fortunate individual can afford eye care treatment from private hospitals. Most of the population survives on very low monthly income out of which 91% is entirely spent on food and cheap medications, which in turn makes their condition worse.
LRBT is the beacon of hope for such poverty-stricken people.

Today, LRBT through its 19 hospitals and 58 clinics across the country has treated over 44 million patients and performed over 4.3 million major and minor eye surgeries. The organization has been a hopeful place for the poor and the needy looking for quality eye treatments. In this notable cause, your help played a very vital role. This year again, we ask you to generously donate to the cause of restoring someone’s sight and changing their lives.

About LRBT

Making Lives Colorful

LBRT is one of the leading non-profit organizations of Pakistan thriving for the welfare of the greater community. It relentlessly strives to prevent the sufferings of the poor from ocular disorders. To do so, the organization offers free eye care treatments, so that every individual has the chance to live fully and enjoy the colors of life.

With their expertise, efficiency, and compassion for all, the organization achieves its purpose of extending a helping hand towards the underprivileged. From simple refraction to advanced corneal transplants and retinal surgeries, LBRT is well equipped to carry out intricate surgical procedures. The cutting-edge technology used by their experts with honest compassion and dignity for the poor represents the humility and purpose of the organization. The hospital is accessible to all and can be found within a range of 200 kilometers from your location anywhere in Pakistan.

How did it start?

Back in December 1984 late Zaka Rahmatullah and Graham Layton after retiring from their successful venture, envisioned to establish the Layton Rahmatullah Benevolent Trust with the seed money of PKR 1 million. The ultimate goal was to set up a mobile eye hospital in Tando Bago, a small town. It has been 34 years since its inception where now the hospital has extended its facilities from 19 to 58 clinics.

Foundations of LRBT

The foundations are based on these 4 guiding principles:

  • All eye-related treatments must be free, so that nobody goes blind because he/she cannot afford an eye treatment.
  • There should be no difference in the treatment, charity does not mean substandard treatment.
  • No discrimination should be made based on race, caste, ethnicity, and religion.
  • Everyone should be treated with the same dignity and compassion.

Why support?

The Quran says,

Those who spend of their goods (in charity) by night and by day in secret and in public shall have their reward with their Lord: on them shall be no fear nor shall they grieve (Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah verse 274)

Pakistan’s population is growing at a rate of 2% per annum making it the 5th most populous country in the world. Since it was last reported in 2020, the total population of Pakistan was 207.8 Million. Out of these 207.8 million people, 22.85 million are either blind or visually impaired. This eye ailment class comprises 11% of the total population. Only 2.08 million are curable out of this vast number while around 190,000 people lose their sight every year.

To our country’s adversity, not many can afford private treatments. For this reason, LRBT offers free treatments, surgeries, and medicines to the masses and strives to bring such people back to the colors of life. And as it embarks on its journey to treat more individuals every day, it needs the equipment and resources to facilitate better care.

How can you help?

Give Zakat

With Ramadan approaching, route your Zakat to the LRBT’s cause. It is to note that LRBT is 100% Shariah Compliant and ensures that your Zakat is spent on the treatment of the “Mustaheq” (deserving) patients. LRBT’s internal verification processes ensures that the receiver of the Zakat falls under one of the 8 categories laid down in Islam. While LRBT ensures to provide 100% free of cost treatments to the poor, the organization’s in-house counselors and Shariah Advisor helps in making it definite that your Zakat reaches the “Mustaheq.” In other cases, LRBT ensures that every person in dire need receives help from its Donation pool. The accounts for both Zakat and Donations are maintained separately.

Give Donations

LRBT offers a variety of options that can be used to make donations. This extends from the ease of online donations to options of making direct bank deposits or payments by cheque, sponsoring surgeries, endowment, international remittances, etc. LRBT’s website allows you to make custom amount donations that are specific to facilitating a certain kind of treatment.

Make a Donation to brighten up someone’s life.

Donate Cornea

Damaged cornea cases are one of the most common ones which result in cloudy and opaque vision in many individuals. The only treatment to a damaged cornea is the replacement of it by a healthy donor’s cornea in a process called Corneal Grafting. The process is simple, however, there is an acute shortage of local donors. It is hence, a dire need that people come forward and do this righteous deed.
